Srinagar – a place of beautiful Dal Lake and popular as “City of Shikara.” Dal Lake is also known as the "Lake of Flowers", "Jewel in the crown of Kashmir" or "Srinagar's Jewel". If you are in Kashmir then “Shikara” ride should be there in your priority list. This boat ride would offer you the exclusive view of  mountain range and House Boats. 


Explore the ‘Lake City’ and “Mughal garden City” of Srinagar, cruise along Dal Lake on a traditional Shikara boat, and spend 2-3 nights over here to rejoice yourself in the beauty of culture and nature. In other places of interest, which is common are,

Shalimar Bagh- is one of largest and finest Mughal Garden located in the north-east of Dal lake near the Srinagar city. It is full of greenery and water bodies.  It is linked through a channel to the northeast of Dal Lake. It also known as Shalimar Gardens, Farah Baksh, and Faiz Baksh. 


Shalimar Bagh has its history going back to the second century during the period of King Pravarsena II from Vakataka Dynasty. The king Pravarsena II was the founder of the Srinagar city who built a cottage named "Shalimar" 


Nishat Bagh-  is another Mughal style garden which is located the eastern side of the Dal Lake in Srinagar. A beautiful place that you must visit during evening as well as late afternoon. You would have a fair view of lake as well as mountain range from here. It has 12 terraced garden filled with endearing flowers and beautiful trees. It is the second largest Mughal garden in the Kashmir Valley after Shalimar Bagh. The Bagh was built by Mughal Emperor Jahangir for his wife Nur Jahan, in 1619. The Bagh is considered the high point of Mughal horticulture. It is now a public park and also referred to as the "Crown of Srinagar". It is also know as “The Garden of Delight”.


Chasm-e-Shahi-  is one of the Mughal gardens built in 1632 AD around a spring by Ali Mardan Khan, a governor of Mughal emperor Shah Jahan as per the orders of the Emperor, as a gift for his elder son Prince Dara Shikoh. The garden is located in the Zabarwan Range, near Raj Bhawan overlooking Dal Lake in Srinagar, Kashmir, India. Chashme Shahi is a Garden on Top of Hill and from top of this Garden you can see beautiful view of Dal lake. 


Tulip Garden: it is one of the Asia’s largest Tulip garden located in Srinagar, India. It spread over an area of about 30 hectares. It is situated on the foothills of Zabarwan Range with an overview of Dal Lake. The garden is built on a sloping ground in a terraced fashion consisting of seven terraces. Apart from tulips, many other species of flowers – hyacinths, daffodils and ranunculus have been added as well. Tulip festival is an annual celebration which is organized during the onset of spring season in Kashmir valley.




Nagin Lake- a part of the famous Dal Lake, is one of the most beautiful lakes in the naturally mesmerizing Srinagar. Popularly known as 'Jewel in the ring'. The Nagin Lake is located to the east of the city, at the foothill of the mountain Zabarwan. It’s also a place water sports like activity.

Once you satisfied with your tour to Srinagar you could move to other beautiful places in Kashmir like Gulmarga, Pahalgam, and other places of your interests.

Gulmarga: Gulmarg, the meadow of flowers, is one of Asia's premier hill resorts for its legendary beauty, prime location and the range of choices it offers to the visitors. Famous for its exquisite valleys, gorgeous streams, fascinating slopes for every sort of skiing and hiking, Gulmarg is also home to one of the highest golf courses in the world. 



Gulmarg is equally most sought after place in summers as well as in winters for, it offers myriad choices during summers like greenery and flower beds all around, with beautiful lakes, sublime valleys and Gulmarg Gandola. During winters, the place is thronged by the tourists for its snowy slopes where skiing is done.


Pahalgam: Situated in the Anantnag district of KashmirValley, Pahalgam is a beautiful hill station, which also serves as the base of the holy tour of Amarnath Caves. Serving as the base camp during the Amarnath Yatra, the Pahalgam-Chandanwati-Amarnath route is preferred by tourists trying to reach the mountain cave of Lord Shiva. 


Located 95 km from Srinagar at a height of 7200 ft, Pahalgam, known as the ‘Valley of Shepherds’, is a famous hill station in Jammu and Kashmir where many films have been shot. Pahalgam is surrounded by thickly wooded pine forests, breathtaking vistas of meadows and the snow-clad Himalayan mountains.



Dachigam National Park: Dachigam National Park is located 22 km from Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir. The Park harbors the last viable population of the endangered Hangul or Kashmir Stag. Himalayan Black Bear are visible in the lower reaches from spring to autumn and hibernate in winter. Long-Tailed Marmots are very conspicuous during summer in the upper reaches while Mouse Hare are active throughout the year. Other wildlife includes Leopard, Common Palm Civet, Jackal, Red Fox, Yellow-throated Marten and Himalayan Weasel. Over 145 different bird species including the Lammergeier, colourful species like Monal Pheasant and Blue Magpie are seen.


Just 21kms north-east of Srinagar, and beyond the Mughal Gardens of Nishat and Shalimar, Dachigam is best considered as two parts. Lower Dachigam is more accessible to a visitor while Upper Dachigam is a day's trek. Good time to visit is in September-October which is also the Hangul rutting season.


Adventure Tourism- if you are a trekker or mountaineer then this Kashmir will never disappoint you, because several adventurous activities available for the people who are excited to take more thrilling experience. All different types of Aerial, Land and Water adventures are available. 



Accessibility: the capital city of Srinagar is well connected by road and air. Train comes upto Jammutawi. Other places are mostly connected by roads.

Accommodation: A large number of accomodations are available in Kashmir that is from small hotel/guest house to big five star hotels and Resort. But it would be better if you could spent few nights in House Boat. While selecting your rooms do insist for the lake view, garden view or mountain view rooms.


Food: Kashmiri cuisine is flavoured with lot of Saffron, Kashmiri red chili and smoke. It’s really mouth watering. The red colour and light orange colour in dish that you would observe, because of less spicy and colourful Kashmiri Mirch(Kashmiri Chili) and Keshar (Saffron) respectively.  It’s awesome. 



Shopping: Kashmir is wonderful place of shopping traditionally woven and crafted items, particularly Kashmiri Shawls. 


Shawl and pashmina name comes from Kashmir, but it originates from Hamedan Persia. It is produced from the wool of Ladakhi kashmiri goats which produces soft wool.


   And while returning back don’t forget to buy “Saffron” because it’s place of  Saffron’s production.
